The photographs presented in this appendix are not archival reproductions obtained from public collections. They are family photographs and portraits preserved by the author’s family and remain displayed in the author’s home today.
The individuals depicted include Gao Lingwen (elder brother of Gao Lingwei and the author’s great-grandfather), Madame Gao (wife of Gao Lingwen and the author’s great-grandmother), their son (the author’s maternal grandfather), Gao Lingwen’s daughter (the author’s grandaunt), as well as several later family photographs showing Madame Gao with her granddaughters and, eventually, with the author.
All photographs of the framed images shown in this appendix were taken by the author in his residence on the morning of June 11, 2026.
